Villaraza Cruz Marcelo & Angangco is now also known as CVCLAW. It is under the stewardship of Bienvenido I. Somera, Jr. as Managing Partner, with F. Arthur Villaraza as Chairman and CEO. They are joined in the Executive Committee by Avelino J. Cruz, Jr., Simeon V. Marcelo, Raoul R. Angangco, Sylvette Tankiang and Alejandro Alfonso E. Navarro.

  • Intellectual Property Office – Bureau of Legal Affairs sustains Eddie Bauer, Inc.’s Opposition against Joaquin Ng, Jr.’s Trademark Application for the mark “EDDIE BAUER WITHIN A RECTANGULAR DEVICE”

    In a case handled by the Firm representing Eddie Bauer, Inc., the Bureau of Legal Affairs - Philippine Intellectual Property Office (“BLA”) rendered a Decision in June 2012 stating that the use of the “EDDIE BAUER” mark by a certain Philippine-based individual is tainted with fraud and bad faith.

  • WIPO Transfers Disputed Domain Names for "WINSTON" to Japan Tobacco, Inc.

    In a case handled by our Firm, the World Intellectual Property Organization ("WIPO") Arbitration and Mediation Center issued a Decision in July 2012 ordering the transfer of the domain names "winston.ph" and "winston.com.ph" (the "Disputed Domain Names") from an unauthorized registrant to Japan Tobacco, Inc. ("JTI").

  • BDO's rights to its trademark and tradename successfully affirmed

    In a summary judgment dated February 29, 2012, Branch 211 of the Regional Trial Court of Mandaluyong City dismissed for lack of merit the complaint for trademark infringement and unfair competition filed by accounting firm Stichting BDO (Stichting) against the country's largest banking institution Banco De Oro Unibank, Inc.

  • Defining the Small-Scale Mining Rules

    A nagging issue affecting small scale mining in the Philippines has been settled in a recent opinion by the Department of Justice. At issue was whether small-scale mining was governed solely by Republic Act No. 7076, known as the People's Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991, or whether Presidential Decree No. 1899 ("Establishing small-scale mining as new dimension in mineral development") still applied in certain cirumstances.
